The 60th Annual Dahlia Show of the Greater Columbus Dahlia Society is free and open to the general public from 1 to 5 PM on Saturday, September 5 and from 1 to 4 PM on Sunday, September 6. Top dahlia growers in the mid-west will compete for recognition and cash prizes in dozens of categories. Hundreds of spectacular blooms of all types of dahlias as well as floral arrangements and photographs highlighting dahlias will be on display for both days. The show is being held at the Union County YMCA, 1150 Charles Lane, Marysville OH 43040.
There is no entry fee and both members and non-members of the GCDS are welcome to enter their blooms, arrangements and photos. Staging of entries may begin at 5:30 pm on Friday, September 4.
One of the notable elements in our anniversary show is to honor Wilbur Seipel. Wilbur was a vital force behind the GCDS for many years, including at least 15 years as our president. Zorro was Wilbur’s favorite dahlia and Lilly Ann Seipel has been offering $150 for the best Zorro in our show in memory of her husband for many years. For our 60th Show the GCDS is going to match the $150 and thus offer $300 for the best Zorro! Additional prize money is possible, as the best Zorro will also be in the running for the best AA, etc.
Special awards will also be offered for the best Marcella Louise and Carl.
Additional information will be provided in a show schedule that will be posted on this page in the future.
