Greater Columbus Dahlia Society

Who We Are

The Dahlia is grown world-wide for its myriad of shapes, sizes and vibrant colors.  The Greater Columbus Dahlia Society (GCDS) was founded in 1964 to facilitate sharing the beauty of the Dahlia and foster the sharing of information relative to growing and displaying the Dahlia.

Throughout the growing season GCDS has regular meetings that cover new introductions, proper soil preparation, tuber selection, potting and planting methods, fertilization, watering, general care, plant protection from insects, preparing blooms for exhibition and preparing tubers for winter storage. There are always members present at the meetings and otherwise available to help you with any questions.

In the late summer of each year the GCDS has an annual dahlia show. Members and non-members are encouraged to exhibit their finest blooms, artistic arrangements with dahlias and photograph of dahlias.  The beautiful bloom featured above is “Dick Westfall”, named in honor of our past President and undoubtedly one of the best growers in the United States.

The GCDS is affiliated with the American Dahlia Society (ADS), a source of valuable educational materials.
